What is Electronic Spam?

Content

The use of an electronic messaging system to send unsolicited bulk message is known as spam. This includes most broadcast media and digital delivery systems‘-mail spam is the most widely recognized form of spam. There are other forms of media that are abused as well. This may include instant messaging spam, web search engine spam, and several others.

It is cost effective for the advertiser to use spamming methods because there are no operating costs to do this other then managing their mailing lists. It is hard to hold the sender of spam accountable for these mass mailings. This is why there are so many spammers and the amount of their unsolicited mail is very high. The public and internet service providers are the ones that pick up the costs of spam. The costs for lost productivity and fraud. The extra capacity also has to be added in to cope with the overwhelming amount. In many jurisdictions spamming has been the subject.

Spam can also be used for criminal activity. A criminal will use spam to distribute viruses over the world wide web. It can also be used to spread malware or use other ways to access someone’s computer. The goal of this could be to steal a person’s identity or worse. The United States authorities arrested Robert Alan Soloway in May of 2007. He was charged on 35 counts of criminal activity. His charges included fraud by mail, email, wire. He was also charged with counts of identity theft and laundering of money. During the year 2003, prosecutors believed that Soloway used millions of computers that were connected to the computer and had been already hacked to distribute his spam. This was one of the first instances in history that the United States prosecutors had to make an arrest of someone for taking over someone’s domain name using identity theft laws.

The Internet Crime That Can Cost You Everything

Have you heard of phishing? If not, you will want to pay attention. Phishing is a crime. In fact, it’s one of the most rapid growing crimes on the internet today. Phishing is a complete con that is usually done by a person who manipulates others into giving their personal information via the internet. Most phishing is done using technical tricks and social commerce to entice vulnerable people into giving over all of their financial information, leaving them wrecked.

How do they do it? Well, they create an email that looks very much like the most common banking institutions. They will send a request that seems legitimate. For example, they send an email telling you that there have been a few attempts to log into your account and therefore they advise you to reset your username and password. In order to do so, they ask you to go to the link in the email they have provided and enter in your previous username and password. With just that alone, you have given the criminal access to your banking information. These scamsters have a bank of email addresses that they send to in the hopes that a certain percentage of them have the bank they are cloning and that a certain percentage of those will open and respond to the email.

Most of the identity theft cases today are related to phishing, because the con artists are so clever.

So many banks suffer from this as well because they are being impersonated. Consumers start to doubt the security of their own banks, if others are allowed to access their accounts so easily.

If you should ever receive one of these emails, even if you believe it is from your bank, do not respond via email or the link provided. Instead, call your bank if you believe it might be accurate.

Phishing is serious these days and you will want to do all you can to avoid it happening to you.
